Reprieve To Businessmen As Government Issues Waiver On Penalties To Tax Defaulters

Property owners in Nyeri County have breathed a sigh of relief after Governor Nderitu Gachagua issued a 100 percent waiver on penalties and interests accrued from defaulting payment of tax, levies and land rates.

Gachagua however admitted that the defaulters were clamping government’s effective delivery of services.

“The government needs money to offer services. Non-payment of rates and levies is affecting our operations,” said Gachagua as he appealed to residents to ‘give Caesar what’s for Caesar’.

He said the waiver period would be for 30 days only.

While addressing journalists in Nyeri town, Gachagua added that his government has received KES.18 million from the Tea Directorate to improve roads network at tea zones.

“The money will be channeled to Tea Buying Centres management committees across the five the factories in our County. It will be used to improve roads only,” said the Governor while flanked by his Deputy, Samuel Wamathai.
