A secondary school Principal was found murdered alongside Gisambai-Mudete road at Kivagala in Vihiga County.
Tom Majanga, who was in his late 50s, was until his untimely death the Principal at Bumuyange secondary school in Hamisi constituency.
Confirming the incident, acting police commander Benson Kilonzo said police were alerted at 5am by a motorcyclist who was ferrying a passenger to the nearby Majengo town.
“The motorcyclist reported at Gisambai Administration Police post and said he had seen a body lying beside the road and a vehicle parked near it,” said Kilonzo.
Kilonzo said police acted by visiting the scene where they found the Principal already murdered.
He said initial investigations showed that the Principal was travelling by himself and was trying to repair his car tyre when he was attacked.
“He had two deep cuts on his head supposedly inflicted with a sharp object and we are also suspecting that some properties were stolen from him because his pockets and the vehicle had been ransacked,” Kilonzo said.
The Principal’s death elicited fear and anxiety among other principals in the County who called on the government to beef up the security of all residents.
Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association national vice chairperson, Kahi Indimuli, questioned the safety of principals who sometimes make decisions in their various stations and don’t know how many people they offend.
“As principals, we are concerned. Does the government want principals to also call for security like other people in the country who are guarded?” said Indimuli.
He added, “It is a sad morning for principals who have lost one of their own who was very hardworking and cooperative. We are sending our heartfelt condolences to his family.”
He said from the documents found in the vehicle, the Principal must have been working on registration of candidates until very late due to low internet connectivity.
Indimuli further criticised the level of response to emergencies by various organs in the County, noting that it was wanting and unacceptable.
“It is now 9:25am and the body of the Principal is still lying beside the road despite him having been killed very early in the morning. Recently, a school burned down and there was no immediate response. This should stop,” he said.
Indimuli said it was unfortunate the Principal had been killed only a few metres from the APs camp, yet no one helped him.
