Ruiru – A suspected 35-year old ivory dealer was apprehended in Ruiru with 39 elephant tusks in his possession.
According to The Star police officers apprehended him on Tuesday last week during a raid.
Ruiru police boss, Issack Thuranira said they got a tip off that there was illegal activity happening in a house at Githurai Kimbo
The male is also suspected to be a part of the transnational gang trade.

Earlier this month Kenyan authorities deployed specialised dogs to find elephant and rhino ivory in a bid to curb the onslaught on one of Kenya’s most valued mammals.
Meanwhile ViceTV in 2013 reported on the rise of elephant poaching in Northern Kenya due to the big demand of ivory products coming from various parts of Asia, namely China.
There has been a trend amongst the wealthy in China to make ivory trinkets for their homes under the impression that ivory products are in abundance in Kenya.
