An activist snubbed the chance to attend the Governance and Corruption Summit at State House, leaving President Uhuru Kenyatta angered.
Uhuru said he was disappointed that some ardent government critics, including anti-graft crusader John Githongo, had skipped the summit which took place Tuesday.
Githongo and economist David Ndii are among accountability crusaders who had been invited but gave the summit a wide berth.
According to Uhuru, it was disappointing.
” People claim that they want to improve Kenya when they make all sorts of accusations in public, but when we invite them for open discussions on how to help, they do not show up,” he lamented without naming names.
Siaya Senator James Orengo had also been invited to the summit.
Only Transparency International boss Samuel Kimeu and Houghon Irungu, director of the Society for International Development, were present from civil society.
Ndii has been said to be working with CORD leader Raila Odinga on his 2017 campaigns while Githongo did not comment on why he missed the summit when contacted by News24.
