Malawi ministers are reportedly worried about an impending cabinet reshuffle after reports emerged that some officials in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party had begun “sharing” cabinet portfolios during the time that President Peter Mutharika was in the US.
According to the Nyasa Times, some officials in the southern African country had started allocating themselves cabinet portfolios.
“As I was drinking coffee in New York, others were busy here planning for my state funeral. Some of these pharisees were allocating cabinet portfolios and other government positions,” Mutharika was quoted as saying.
President Mutharika reportedly revealed this at a presidential rally at Pasani School ground.
Mutharika’s long stay in the United States last month led to rumours that he may have suffered from ill health, with some saying that he may have even passed away, according to reports.
