President Kenyatta Invites Raila, Wetang’ula To Madaraka Day Celebrations In Nakuru

President Uhuru Kenyatta has invited opposition chief Raila Odinga to the national Madaraka Day celebrations that will be held in Nakuru.

President Kenyatta on Tuesday extended the invitation to Raila, who was accompanied with Senator Moses Wetang’ula, after a meeting in Nairobi, according to State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu.

This was after the President hosted a State Luncheon to honour visiting Republic of Korea President Park Geun-hye.

“The President, accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto, held a brief meeting with Raila and Wetang’ula. He invited the two to the Madaraka Day celebrations to be held in Nakuru County Wednesday,” said Mr Esipisu in a statement sent to the media.

It is not clear whether the two opposition leaders who have been at loggerheads with the government after they announced that they will hold a parallel rally in Nairobi, will attend the function.

Philip Etale, the communications director at the Raila led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) however said the opposition leaders will honour the invitation on condition that the Uhuru Park rally organized by CORD proceeds uninterrupted.

Kalonzo Musyoka, a CORD Co-principal was conspicuously missing at the state house meeting. The former vice president is out on official duty in Beijing China.
