Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has provided insight into President Muhammadu Buhari’s position over the fuel price increase that was instituted last week.
According to a report by Sun News Online, Osinbajo revealed that Buhari has been opposed to price increases since the beginning of his tenure as President, but was forced to hike fuel prices due to inadequate foreign policy.
Describing the move as the “hardest decision Buhari had to make”, Osinbajo disclosed that even if all four refineries in the country worked at optimal level, only 40 per cent of domestic consumption would be satisfied.
“If there is one person in Nigeria who believes that petroleum prices should not go up by one naira, it is President Buhari,” stated Osinbajo.
Buhari had earlier been served with a 7-day ultimatum over the increase in fuel price, with Dino Melaye claiming that Buhari risks the spread of civil disobedience should the price not be reverted.
