For 10 years, Kalekye Mumo was the gracious queen of radio at Kiss 100. Together with Shaffie Weru, they made a hilarious and energetic tag team until this year July when she went off-air.

But that’s not all, Kalekye has taken on a new calling – an ambassador for healthy living. After impressively shedding off 40kgs, her journey is now an inspiration to thousands of both men and women struggling with weight.

The ex-radio queen had an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, where she spoke about her challenges, her beauty as an African woman, and disclosed a surprise she had reserved for her fans.

1. On your transformation, what are some of the challenges that you’ve encountered?

– The biggest challenge has been dealing with people who feel let down or that I lied about loving myself as I was. The plus size girls really felt abandoned and that really isn’t true. I am just a smaller version of myself and more so a healthier version.

– I have struggled to explain that I didn’t change loving my body the way it was, I am actually afraid of being skinny…. Weird as it may sound. I believe every man appreciates a curvy woman and all I am is a curvy fit one.

2. Through your Facebook posts and YouTube channel – The Me I Want – it’s clear you’re helping many people, especially with diets. Do you plan to do more?

– I actually just share my experiences and what I learnt along the way on my journey. Most important thing is that I am a person that many look up to and listen to so I endeavour to connect them with the gurus who have all the information.

– I definitely plan to lead the way as the healthy living guru in the country and soon move the show to be bigger with more to share and learn.

3. What is your message to your fans who really miss you on radio?

– I miss my radio fans so much it’s insane but I assure them I am 100% here… find me on YouTube and social media… I may just surprise them very soon.
