One of the senior official of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) was on Wednesday arraigned in court for allegedly insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kennedy Nyamwanda Ondieki based in Nyamira County is accused of terming the Head of State a bhang smoker during a meeting held last year on December 23 where the accused was addressing the countrywide teachers’ strike.
A charge sheet before Resident Magistrate Ms Alice Towett, indicated that Ondieki said: “Uhuru Kenyatta onyure enyasore enyinge yagerire akoraa eserekari ya Kenya gochia rochie.”
The words relatively translate to: “Uhuru Kenyatta has smoked a lot of bhang to the extent that he leading the country to a river.”
Ondieki, who is the branch chairman of KNUT in Nyamira, denied the charge and was granted a Sh20,000 bond by Magistrate Towett. The case will be mentioned on November 21.
Meanwhile, teachers held demonstrations in the County to show support for the embattled chairman.
This comes barely a month after the Head of State met and forgave Kisii Member of County Assembly (MCA) Samuel Aboko, for calling him a Marijuana smoker.
