The South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, who won an Oscar for his performance in the movie Parasite, has passed away.
On Wednesday, the movie star was discovered unconscious in a car in one of Seoul’s most popular parks.
Although the circumstances behind Sun-kyun’s death are still unknown, authorities have learned that he fled his house after penning a message.
Authorities reportedly discovered the actor dead after leaving what looked to be a suicide note behind, according to Reuters.
In the midst of a government crackdown, Sun-kyun has been questioned by police three times since October on allegations of using illegal drugs.
According to the Yonhap news agency, he was allegedly caught using ketamine and marijuana with a hostess at a Seoul club.
The actor said the woman was “trying to blackmail” him into taking narcotics, and he was “tricked” into doing so.
The role of Mr. Park was portrayed by Lee in the 2019 film Parasite.
In 2020, the film was the winner of four Academy Awards. Best picture, best director, best original screenplay, and best foreign feature film are among the categories.
The actor also starred in the critically praised 2018 TV series “My Mister,” as well as previous hits including “Helpless” and “All About My Wife.”
He is survived by Jeon Hye-jin, his wife and two children.
