Sinead Marie Bernadette O’Connor, who was born in Glenageary, County Dublin, in December 1966, had previously spoken about her traumatic childhood. Her mother was also discovered to be disturbed and abusive, according to her.
She wrote a memoir on her childhood maltreatment at the hands of her mother, who died in a vehicle accident in 1985, in 2021.
O’Connor released her first critically acclaimed album, ‘The Lion And The Cobra,’ in 1987. The album topped UK and US charts and garnered her a Grammy award for best female vocal rock performance.
After the release of her second album, ‘I Do Not Want What I Don’t Have,’ she rose to international prominence. O’Connor’s hit song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ was included in the collection. The song, written by Prince, went to number one all over the world, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
The Irish singer rose to prominence due to her shaved head and outspoken opinions.
O’Connor’s three children outlive her. Shane, her 17-year-old son, died in January 2022, NewsofAfrica reported.
Shane was discovered dead two days after he had gone missing.
