One dead in Joburg building collapse

Johannesburg – One man was killed and another sustained moderate injuries when part of a building collapsed in Ophirton in Booysens, Johannesburg, on Friday.

“ER24 paramedics and other rescue services including Fire and Rescue and provincial paramedics arrived on the scene and found one person trapped under the rubble,” ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said in a statement.

The man was declared dead at the scene.

His colleague was assessed and found to have sustained moderate injuries.

“He was treated and transported to hospital for further medical care,” Bodasing said.

“The exact cause of the incident is unknown. Authorities were on scene for further investigations.”
