Nyokabi Denies Calling For Governor Gachagua’s Ejection In 2017 Poll

Nyeri Women Representative Priscillah Nyokabi has denied calling for ejection of Governor Nderitu Gachagua during next year’s general elections.

Nyokabi said she was misquoted by the media following a condemnation by various leaders.

She had said the County needs a governor who is a team player, one who can promote a good working relationship between the national government and county leaders to propel the devolved unit forward.

Nyeri County Assembly Majority Leader, Duncan Gituanja said Nyokabi’s remarks were uncalled for and unfortunate.

However, Nyokabi has issued a defensive statement saying the media twisted her remarks.

“The statement on voting out Gachagua was not mine, that was a twist by the media,” she said in a statement.

Nyokabi, however, maintained that Nyeri needs good leadership and especially the governor.

“I urged our Bishops and church leaders to lead us in praying for Good leaders to be elected in Nyeri especially a good captain-the Governor,” said the County MP.

“We do indeed need good leadership in Nyeri a well resourced County. In 2017 let us elect good leaders,” she added.

Nyokabi has observed that elected leaders who have performed should be retained.

“I prayed that where a leader has performed they should be retained. Changing leaders every other election is not good for a County as it takes sometime to learn the ropes. Once a leader has learnt they should be allowed to work for the electorate for at least 10 years,” she noted.
