Authorities said the shooting on Monday morning was at the Delamer House care home in Walton-on-the-Naze, 145km northeast of London.

Police did not immediately release the ages of the suspect and the victim, but the woman was believed to be in her 80s.

Police say forensic searches are underway and no other suspects are being sought.

The home was closed off by police and the staff is refusing to comment.
