Factional leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff, has described Monday’s Edo State gubernatorial primaries as illegal and unconstitutional, reports Premium Times.
The primary was conducted by the Ahmed Makarfi faction.
The primary saw the emergence of Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the party’s flagbearer for the Edo State governorship election slated for September 10.
But Sheriff in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which was co- signed by the factional National Secretary, Wale Oladipo, Sheriff urged INEC not to give legitimacy to what happened in Edo, saying his faction would conduct a proper primary in the state.
Sheriff also urged members of the party nationwide especially, in Edo State to disregard the exercise.
