The Board of Trustees (BoT) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised the National Caretaker Committee of the party to hold the next national convention of the party in Abuja.
At the BoT meeting on Monday, the members also directed that a new national convention committee be set up.
This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the BoT meeting held at the Musa Ya’Adua Centre in Abuja.
The Chairman of the BoT, Senator Walid Jubrin, read the communiqué of the meeting.
Factional National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff, had demanded the removal of Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers as chairman of convention planning committee as part of conditions for resolving the party’s crisis.
Sheriff had also demanded that the convention should be shifted from Port Harcourt to Abuja.
The BoT communiqué read in part,
“The next convention should be held in Abuja.
“To ensure a credible, transparent, free and fair convention, a new Convention Planning Committee should be constituted by the National Caretaker Committee and approved by the NEC.”
‘The reconciliation committee should continue with “all good efforts of reconciling all aggrieved Party members.”
Other members of the BoT in attendance at the meeting included National Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi; former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu; former National Chairmen, Okwesilieze Nwodo and Vincent Ogbulafor, among others.
