Nigeria: INEC Declares Osun Gubernatorial Election Inconclusive – Artist, Davido Reacts

Nigerian Artist, Davido, who has been following the election very closely has something to say in this regard. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed that the election is inconclusive after the close shave between two candidates in the outcome of the result.

According to the INEC’s Returning Officer, Joseph Afuwape, the result has come to an inconclusive end due to the near similar vote count procured by the candidate for the All Progressives Congress Gboyega Oyetola and Ademola Adeleke, the man representing the Peoples Democratic Party.

Gboyega had 254,345 votes while Ademola polled 254,699 in the election. Iyiola Omisore, the gubernatorial representative of the Social Democratic Party, came third with 128,049 votes.

Based on the constitutional law, an election is declared inconclusive if the number of votes accumulated by parties is only slightly different and the number of cancelled polls exceed the difference by a large proportion.

This is what has happened in this case as the difference between the two parties that led the election was just 353 votes but the number of cancelled votes was 3,5498. Hence, the Returning Officer declared that there was no winner.
