Nigeria Football Federation Denies Ordering Withdrawal Of Jerseys

General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mohammed Sanusi has denied in strong terms a report in a national newspaper of Thursday that he had instructed the withdrawal of some kits from players of the U23 National Team presently campaigning for glory at the Olympics in Brazil.

“I was shocked to read the report. This is pure mischief and distraction, because we do not take jerseys that we have already given to players and officials. They are free to do whatever they want with jerseys that have already been handed to them, after matches and/or tournaments.

“Whenever we receive consignment of kits, and the Store Officer is not on the spot (as is the case in Brazil), the Team Administrator takes charge of the supplies and distributes what is due to each player and official. I specifically instructed the Team Administrator of the U23 to ensure that players and officials got what is due to them with regards to kits.

“I want to specially appeal to representatives of the media, whom we hold in very high esteem, to always endeavour to cross –check their stories before going to town,” said Sanusi.

News24 reported that Minister of Youth and Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, apologised to players and officials of Nigeria’s Olympic football team for the challenges they faced, leading to their late arrival in Brazil for the Rio Olympics.
