Tetu MP, Ndungu Gethenji has urged Kenyans to be kind to IEBC commissioners over their high send off perks as they leave office.

Speaking during a fundraiser in his constituency, Gethenji said that the commissioners must be offered favorable terms that do not infringe on their rights because they are entitled to a decent send off.

He said that it is impossible for the nation to send the senior officials packing before their tenure expires and at the same time avoid paying them their dues.

“You cannot have your own cake and eat it and it is therefore unfair for anyone to say that the proposed KES 200 million is huge and unsustainable,” he said.

Gethenji however hailed the work being done the Senator Kiraitu Murungi-led committee in steering the IEBC reforms.

He called on the committee to hasten the process to allow more time to fill their positions if the final decision will not favour them.

“I am confident that the committee will close its work on time to make sure that the next election goes on as scheduled,” he said.
