Lusaka – Zambia’s opposition, theUnited Party for National Development (UPND), has actually mocked President Edgar Lungu over his inexplicable lack from the recurring political election project rallies, claiming he is suffering from “political pneumonia”, a report said on Wednesday.
According to The Post, UPND deputy spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said that his party was praying for the speedy recovery of the “missing” president “as he might be suffering” from “political pneumonia”.
Mweetwa further lambasted the government for refusing to clarify Lungu’s whereabouts.
“…Feeding the nation on a menu of speculation is dangerous. The citizens need to know if the president is ill so that they can pray for him because we are a Christian nation, we can join hands and pray,” Mweetwa was quoted as saying.
According to a previous News 24 report, supporters of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) were worried about their missing leader.
Party supporters expressed their fears over the missing president, as he was expected to be campaigning for the upcoming August 11 presidential elections.
Lungu reportedly last went on a campaign rally on June 4.
Reports on social media claimed that Lungu had postponed attending ruling PF rallies as he was not well and had been flown to South Africa for treatment.
However, PF secretary general Davies Chama denied the reports, saying that the president was in good health.
Chama said that party supporters were going to be told about the president’s next rallies, adding that the reports of the president being taken to SA for treatment were the works of criminals.
