Nyeri Governor, Nderitu Gachagua has claimed that Members of the County Assembly (MCA) are plotting his impeachment in a Mombasa hotel.
Gachagua said the plot was hatched after he denied the MCAs authority to spearhead issuance of bursary cheques and also cancellation of road construction projects by Kerra.
He recently stopped road projects worth KES 150 million fearing that Kerra would do a shoddy job and also because residents were not consulted regarding the roads that needed to be improved.
However, speaking in Karatina town, Gachagua admitted that he is at loggerheads with the MCAs whom he said do not know how to play politics.
“Am not in fear of impeachment. Nyeri MCAs have traveled to Mombasa to plot my ouster. They should be aware that am not a Mayor and I was elected by more than 140,000 people who gave me the seat. I was not elected by the MCAs and therefore they should allow me to serve the people,” Gachagua said sensationally.
He denied that he wanted to acquire a posh Mercedes Benz worth KES 40 million with public funds, divulging that he bought his first Mercedes at a tender age.
Gachagua further alleged that the MCAs are fighting him because he denied them tenders and opportunity to make money for next year’s campaigns.
“Ward Reps are getting a salary of KES 400,000. That seat needs a well-educated person who will be able to articulate electorates’ issues effectively. In the assembly they do not speak vernacular and you must speak on behalf of your people. Next year make sure you elect learned persons to avoid some embarrassments,” said Gachagua as he encouraged teachers to vie for the seats.
He further warned the gubernatorial seat aspirants against speaking ill about him saying that they should sell their policies to the people and leave him alone.
