Naivasha – A 10 –year old was run over by a speeding Matatu on Monday evening traveling along Moi South Lake road causing residents to take matters into their own hands, reports The Star.

According to an eye witness, Samson Wambugu said residents at Kamere estate then began to physically assaulted the driver and set the minibus alight.

“The boy, who was with his mother, rushed to cross the road after spotting a relative when the matatu ran over him,” Wambugu said.

The area has already been experiencing high tensions as residents who mainly make up flower farm workers have been caught up in a land dispute in Naivasha, reported The Star on Tuesday.

After the burning and looting of the vehicle, Matatu operators blocked off the roads on Tuesday morning causing all traffic to come to a halt.

Despite the presence of riot police the operators said they demanded the arrest of those who were responsible for the attack on their driver.
