The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal Teaching Hospital (FETHI), Ido-Ekiti, Dr Lawrence Ayodele, said the three doctors, who were among the seven doctors who died in an accident, did not take permission for the trip from the hospital’s management.
He said seven doctors from the Ekiti State Hospital Management Board, Ekiti State Teaching Hospital and FETHI agreed to go on the trip using a bus belonging to the state’s Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) for the Sokoto conference.
He said: “The seven doctors came together to take an NMA bus and driver. They did not involve our hospital. And the three of them from our hospital did not take permission for the conference.
“So, it is surprising to hear all the way in Sokoto that a group of people under the aegis of Senior Staff Association (SSA) gathered in front of our hospital accusing me of their death.
He has absolved himself of wrongdoing in the death of the doctors while addressing reporters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Monday.
Various unions, including the Medical Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Senior Staff Association (SSA), National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, had accused the CMD of using charms to kill workers in a bid to secure a second term.
