Nairobi – The Kenyan Revenue Authority (KRA) intercepted and apprehended drug traffickers attempting to export postal package containing illegal narcotics, reports theStandard Media.
Officers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) attached to the KRA Customs and Border Control Division seized 6kgs of illegal narcotics from Senegal during a routine screening mission that was on route to the United Kingdom.
KRA Customs and Border Control Commissioner confirmed that the package which was labelled as dry fish contained Cannabis Sativa (Bhang) however has been sent for further testing.
Authorities have expressed grave caution against drug trafficking.
As a result of the bust the Anti-Narcotics Unit are on higher alert.
Meanwhile The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has assured locals and visitors that all the airports and airstrips are safe.
KAA acting Managing Director Yatich Kangugo said there were no security threats at airports, adding that the memo to all managers was just a precautionary measure that was released before verification by the National Security Aviation Committee and other security organs.
This also comes after police received intelligence reports that there could be a possible terror attack on the country’s airport by Al-Shabaab militants.
