King Charles III to Have Prostate Operation

King Charles III and the Princess of Wales are both struggling with medical concerns, forcing them to postpone previously scheduled public appearances in the coming weeks.

Charles will have a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate next week, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Wednesday. According to the palace, the king’s condition is benign.

Moments ago, the princess’ office stated that Kate would stay in a private hospital in London for up to two weeks following planned stomach surgery. The princess, formerly Kate Middleton, is married to Prince William, the heir to the throne.

While it is unusual for members of the royal family to reveal information about their health, the twin declarations may assist to eliminate speculation about whether events starring Charles or Kate will be postponed or canceled in the coming weeks.

The publicity surrounding the king’s surgery is viewed as a chance to persuade other men to have their prostates tested in accordance with public health guidelines. The 75-year-old monarch sought therapy “in common with thousands of men each year,” according to the palace.

An enlarged prostate is frequent in men over the age of 50. The disorder affects how people urinate and is usually not a severe health risk. It is not cancerous and does not raise the chance of developing prostate cancer.

In recent years, the U.K. and foreign media have focused on the health of Britain’s senior royals, first as the late Queen Elizabeth II faded from public view during the final months of her 70-year reign, and then when Charles ascended to the throne at an age when most of his contemporaries had retired.

A number of events on the monarch’s agenda have already been postponed, including plans for foreign dignitaries and members of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Cabinet to visit Dumfries House in Scotland.

Kate, 42, was admitted to The London Clinic on Tuesday.

The princess’ staff at Kensington Palace did not provide any information, but stated that her ailment was not malignant. Despite having generally good health, Kate was hospitalized while pregnant due to severe morning sickness.

Kate apologized for postponing forthcoming engagements, and Kensington Palace confirmed that she will not return to public responsibilities until after Easter.

“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate,” the palace said. “She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.”

Following Prince Harry and Meghan’s turbulent departure to California in 2020, the Prince and Princess of Wales have cemented their status as among the most popular members of the royal family.

Kate, in particular, has remained a dependable royal in the public eye, a cheerful mother of three who can console mourning parents at a children’s hospice or dazzle the nation with a piano performance during a broadcast Christmas concert.
