I have no apologies to make to the DP, Kiambu Governor William Kabogo says.
Kabogo has been under-fire from sections of the Jubilee Coalition for stating that the DP would not be able to win the Kikuyu vote for the 2022 elections.
” What I said was that the DP would need to step aside from the President’s shadow and come and negotiate for himself. There are no handouts here and I am sure he himself knows it,” he stated Thursday.
He added that there would be alot happening between 2017 and 2022 for the vote to be given on a silver platter to Ruto this early.
” This is politics. Every day something changes. The DP is a smart man and he knows it,” he added almost unapologetically.
According to Political scientist Michael Njenga, what Kabogo speaks about has its own merit.
” If you look through time, historically, Kikuyus have always voted for their own person since the onset of multiparty elections,” he said.
” There is nothing to show that Ruto will be the exception. It has never happened before and I can bet it will not with Ruto,” he added.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has already declared that he will back the DP come 2022, to return a favour meted out by the DP during the 2013 and 2017 polls.
