Journalists in Kenya are set to stage a countrywide demonstrations against violent attacks at work.
The journalists wanted the government to explain the mysterious murder of their colleagues.
Journalists from various houses were expected to meet at Uhuru Park’s Freedom Corner to start their procession to Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Keriako Tobiko and Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet’s offices.
They specifically wanted Tobiko and Boinnet to update them on investigations into the death of a Kilifi-based Standard newspaper journalist, Joseph Masha.
Masha collapsed and died at his home in suspected food poisoning on Saturday, according to The Star.
Other reports indicated that Masha spent the entire day on Friday covering President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tour of the Coast region, before joining a popular politician for dinner in the evening.
On Saturday, he developed a stomachache which led to his untimely death.
A BBC report said that at least five journalists had died in kenya in a span of one year.
Fears were that journalists were likely to face more threats, as the east African country ready for presidential elections next year.
