A Kenyan court on Friday freed on bail an Italian athletics agent accused of doping runners.
Federico Rosa, a director of Italy-based Rosa and Associati which manages several top Kenyan athletes, was arrested by Kenyan police together with his father Gabriele and questioned earlier this week over doping allegations that continue to plague the east African nation.
Rosa is accused of having “conspired to cause injury by doping, to the reputation and profession of athletes.”
During his second court appearance on Friday the judge agreed to release Rosa on a 300,000 shillings ($2,960) cash bail and ordered him to appear in court again on July 14 after the prosecution asked for more time to conduct investigations.
Kenyan police also have in custody a former Rosa and Associati coach, Claudio Berardelli, who is expected to be charged on similar offences when he appears in court on Tuesday.
Berardelli was before coach to several Kenyan athletes including the disgraced marathon runner Rita Jeptoo, who tested positive for banned blood-booster EPO in September 2014, and whose case is now before the Court of Arbitration for Sports in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Jeptoo, who was banned for two years is seeking an appeal against her suspension.
