Kenyan Artist, Zerro Sufuri Shares His Beliefs About Tattoos

 Zerro Sufuri, real name Jeremiah Chege, an artist[Rapper] from Nairobi, He explained why he doesn’t spot any tattoos, unlike most musicians. Speaking to Genge music legend Nonini on his YouTube show Rhymes Na Nonini, Zerro attributed his lack of tattoos to his religious beliefs.

He said “I don’t have any tattoos because I feel that if I get one, I won’t go to heaven,” said the award-winning rapper, adding that the belief was cemented by teachings from his father who’s a preacher.

Speaking on the viral Zimenishika freestyle that earned him fame and mainstream recognition, Zerro revealed, “That video ilikuwa tu clip ya kujibamba (was just for fun). It was recorded in 2016 and I had even forgotten all about it before it went viral three years later in 2019.”

According to the rapper who’s unique flow has earned him a legion of fans, when the freestyle blew up, he didn’t own a mobile phone.

“I heard that some people were looking for me but I didn’t even have a phone,” he said, adding that after getting studio time “ I played my part halafu God akasababisha (made it happen).”
Sufuri  also spoke about the inspiration behind his unique name- the first an alteration of zero while the second is the Swahili variant of the same.
He said that, While searching for his artist name, He was looking for a unique name that he could own. He also wanted a name that would be a source of inspiration to the youth as he came from nothing (zero) to where he his,He said he draws pride from the fact that he’s never worked for anyone to make a living.
