President Uhuru Kenyatta re-election bid in 2017 has received a major boost in Kwale County after a caucus dubbed ‘Warembo na UhuRuto’ was launched in an area considered a CORD stronghold.

The group under patronage of nominated MCA Fatuma Chizumo comprises of professionals and will ensure that Jubilee administration get more votes in the area.

Uhuru Kenyatta got 17,633 votes in Kwale County compared to Raila Odinga who garnered 101,407 votes.

Addressing journalists in Diani Kwale, the Jubilee leaders accused CORD leaders in the area of using their popularity to steal Jubilee votes in 2013.

“We know Uhuru got a lot of votes from Kwale and Coast at large but our colleagues in ODM stole them. This time round we are alert,” she  claimed.

She asked the opposition to brace for a tough political battle in 2017 saying they are going to use all means to elect Jubilee leaders starting from MCAs to the Governor.

Ambassador Chirau Mwakwere of URP has declared interest in the Governorship seat and will be contesting against  Salim Mvurya, Nicholas Zani, speaker Sammy Ruwa, Daniel Dena and Mwachai Mwarapayo among others.

They however did not publicly declare support for Mwakwere.

Accompanied by over 50 Jubilee members from across Kwale County, Chizumo dismissed claims that the region is a CORD zone saying 2017will prove the opposition wrong.

“You cannot refer Kwale County as an opposition zone when we have 22 Jubilee MCAs and only 11 from CORD,” she said.

She said Kwale County must be in the next government after 2017 general election for it to benefit like other regions which have benefited from Jubilee leadership.

Her sentiments were echoed by nominated MCA Mwanamisi Libondo who said the opposition had lost direction of leadership in the country by resorting to chaotic demonstrations instead of dialogue on the IEBC issue.

“Kenyans including those from Kwale County are tired of CORD which is fond of using hooliganism,” she said.

Kinango constituency Jubilee activist Gladys Mboga asked ODM Party leader Raila Odinga to forget about Kwale support this round since locals have decided to be in the next government.

“The fact that we have a TNA MP in Kinango and many MCAs more than CORD it is evident Kwale is Jubilee zone,” she added.
