The Kenya Power Company revenue collection in Malindi Sub-County has declined by 20 per cent since 2014 following the closure of several hotels in Malindi and Watamu.
Speaking to the press in his office in Malindi, Kenya Power branch manager, Geoffrey Situngu said the company was initially collecting Shs.200 million per month as revenue but now collects less by 20 per cent due to the decline of the tourism Industry.
Situngu said a number of hotels that paid about Shs.25 million per month in electrical power bills have closed down resulting to poor revenue collection by the power company.
He said hotels such as Lawfords and Coral Key among others that were paying a lot of money to the company have closed down.
The Manager said about 14 hotels have closed down since 2014 affecting the tourism industry in the area
