Hoteliers in the beach town of Diani are counting losses following a ravaging fire that razed four hotels in the area Tuesday evening.
The fire started at Palm Beach Hotel before spreading to three other neighbouring Neptune Village Beach Resort, Neptune Paradise and Sunset Villas.
According to Citizen Digital, the strong wind from the ocean caused the fire to spread to houses that are far from the hotels, but concerted efforts by the Kwale County fire fighters, Radar Security and Kenya Navy helped contain it from spreading further.
Property worth millions was destroyed and over 50 guests evacuated to the neighbouring Baobab beach hotel, The Star reports.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
