Kenya: Jubilee Leader Sues Joseph Nkaissery Over IEBC Protests

A Jubilee Coalition activist and politician has sued Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett over the IEBC protests.

Ngunjiri Wambugu who is planning to vie for the Nyeri Town seat come the 2017 elections in his application Wednesday accused the two of not doing enough to make the protest safe for both protesters and non protesters.

In his application, he says that he wants the two compelled to formulate a code of conduct for conveyors of demonstrations.

They include detailed explanations of how they intend to ensure non-participants are not adversely affected during demonstrations.

” The state must provide a clear line of responsibility for those liable in case of loss of property and life or injury,” he said in his application.

He says that the action taken by Police to help quell the protests was not good enough.

” It is possible to assemble and demonstrate without infringing on another peoples rights and freedoms,” he added.

7 people were killed in the month long protests seeking change in the IEBC, while property valued at millions of shillings was destroyed in the process.
