Residents of Othaya, Nyeri County have been urged to keep off alcohol during the funeral of the former first lady, Lucy Kibaki on Saturday.
According to police, this will help portray a “good image” to dignitaries who will be visiting the County to pay homage to the late Mama Lucy.
Nyeri South OCPD also told Daily Nation that anyone found drunk and disorderly near the burial site will be arrested.
Lucy Kibaki died last Tuesday at the Bupa Cromwell hospital in London where she was undergoing treatment.
Her requiem mass was held Wednesday at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi in a service attended by family members, public and leaders from across the political divide.
After the service, her remains were taken back to the Lee Funeral home.
She will be buried in Kibaki’s rural home in Othaya according to Kikuyu traditions,Standard reports.
About 20,000 guests including 1,000 dignitaries are expected at the funeral.
