In yet another significant change in the West African country, Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara has reportedly fired the country’s prime minister and dissolved the government.
Prime Minister Patrick Achi and other members of the cabinet are being ousted after the president issued a decree terminating their roles in fulfilling his constitutional rights, according to the presidency’s secretary-general, Abdourahmane Cissé.
Since 2020, Ivory Coast has had three prime ministers as it prepares towards an election in 2025. Hamed Bakayoko, who died of cancer in March 2021, was succeeded by Achi. Bakayoko’s predecessor died in office due to illness as well.
“The president expresses his gratitude to Prime Minister Patrick Achi and to all members of the government for their commitment to serving the nation over the past years,” Cissé said. The outgoing officials will continue to function until later this month when a new government will be set up, he said.
