Ramallah – The Israeli military says troops have shot a Palestinian woman after she attempted to stab a soldier at a West Bank checkpoint.

The military says the attempted stabbing took place on Tuesday in the West Bank city of Hebron. The woman’s condition was not immediately known. The soldier was not wounded.

Earlier in the day, the military says a Palestinian man was found dead in a village near Hebron allegedly after an explosive device he was handling went off.

The military says it arrived in the area to respond to rock throwing. The Palestinians said the circumstances behind the man’s death are unclear.

The violence comes amid rising tensions surrounding a Jerusalem site holy to both Jews and Muslims. Clashes have erupted in Jerusalem between Palestinian protesters and Israeli police
