Nigeria: INEC Presents Certificate Of Return To Ondo State Gov Elect Akeredolu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a Certificate of Return to Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu as the Ondo State Governor-elect, thereby confirming his victory in last Saturday’s governorship election in the state, Saharareporters reports.

Akeredolu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 244 842 votes to beat his closest rival, Eyitayo Jegede of the PDP who polled 150 380.

INEC Supervising National Commissioner in the Southwest, Prince Adedeji Soyebi, presented the document on Tuesday to Akeredolu and his Deputy, Agboola Ajayi, at the commission’s office in Akure.

The event saw the heavy presence of party supporters and members of the Akeredolu and Agboola families.

Segun Agbaje, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State, said at the event that the electoral body was humbled by the commendations it has received for its performance.

INEC declared Akeredolu the governor-elect in the Ondo State gubernatorial election according to News24.

INEC returning officer in the state, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali on Sunday declared Akeredolu the winner after the Saturday election.
