The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has accused the Public Accounts Committee (Pac) of soliciting bribes from its commissioners in order to write a friendly report over the purchase of BVR Kits during the 2013 elections.
IEBC said Pac members asked for Sh3 million from each commissioner in exchange of a favorable report.
“There were demands of Sh3 million from the commissioners by some members of the committee,” a source at the IEBC said.
Pac was investigating claims that IEBC commissioners influenced the awarding of a tender to supply biometric voter registration (BVR) kits to Face Technologies.
Pac Chairman Nicholas Gumbo has however denied the claims.
Gumbo said it is unfortunate that IEBC has resulted into sideshows to divert the public attention from the many troubles facing it.
“That is hogwash. It would be very serious indeed if any member tried to get money from the IEBC members,” he said.
Gumbo said there is no way members of his committee would ask for a Sh3 million bribe while the amount of money in question over the 2013 tender is Sh4 billion.
