Huge fire breaks out at refugee camp in France

Paris – A huge fire broke out at a refugee camp near the port of Calais in France on Friday night, just hours after attacks in Paris left more than 150 people dead.

Buzzfeed News reported that the fire started at about 23:00 but its cause was unknown.

There were no casualties, reported the UK’sDaily Mail, but many shelters were destroyed in the blaze.

Calais Deputy Mayor Phillipe Mignonet told Russian broadcaster RT that firefighters had tried putting out the blaze but were working against strong winds.

By Saturday morning, it appeared that the fire had been put out.

The camp, known as the Jungle refugee camp, has been at the centre of clashes between law enforcement officers and migrants, RT reports.

It has become a temporary home for thousands of asylum seekers from the Middle East and Africa.
