A fire raged a section of Mathare slums leaving about 200 families left stranded homeless in the cold, reports Citizen TV.
As a result at least 30 people were left with minor injuries after they tried to salvage their property.
The cause of the fire which started at 8pm is still unknown.
However irate residents were angered by the fact that security fire engines arrived late at the scene threatening to burn their engines.
There have been several incidents of fire in the slums.
Meanwhile in Ruaraka, police arrested 114 illegal migrants from Nigeria and Ethiopia.
They have come to Kenya seeking employment or are in transit to Tanzania and South Africa.
