There are indications that the Federal Government has agreed to exchange the Chibok girls with some Boko Haram detainees, reports Punch
The government has already begun moves for the exchange.
Recalled that the sect in its latest video agreed to release the girls in exchange for some of its members detained by the government across the country.
In the video, the abducted girls were shown with a masked gunman who demands the release of captured fellow fighters in return for the girls, reportsNews 24
Speaking in Hausa language, the gunman says “the Chibok parents should tell the Federal Government of Nigeria to release our brethren, especially those in custody in Maiduguri, Lagos, Abuja and other parts of the country. It is the only condition for the release of these girls”. He says at least 40 of the girls have been married off, and that many were killed in air strikes by the Nigerian air force.
Following the release of the video, the government was said to have agreed to the option offered by the sect.
Although the government had not decided on the militants that would be released in exchange for the Chibok girls, insurgents, who had not been tried could be the first beneficiaries of the swop deal.
As part of the moves, security agencies has started conducting a fresh profiling of the Boko Haram detainees in their custody.
