All those who conspired and brought up crimes against humanity charges on Deputy President William Ruto at the International Criminal Court Court (ICC) are forgiven.
The Deputy President Friday during his first press briefing three days after the Hague based court terminated his case and that of journalist Joshua Arap Sang, said he has pardoned all those who contributed to his plight.
“I have searched my conscience and soul and I have chosen to forgive all those who gave false testimony against me,” he said at the briefing at his Karen office.
ICC Judges Chile Eboe-Osuji, Olga Herrera Carbuccia and Robert Fremr Tuesday gave a key ruling that set the duo scot-free, bringing to an end a tormenting case for the two individuals that has lasted for over six years.
“It is my prayer that the same God who vindicated will help them come to terms with their evil acts and bring them to repentance so that they account for their acts,” added Ruto, who was flanked by his wife Rachel, mother Sarah Cherono and his two daughters.
The judges ruled that Ruto and Sang have no case to answer in relation to the 2007-2008 post-election violence, in what is arguably the most significant pronouncement since the trial chamber confirmed charges against post-election violence (PEV) suspects.
He paid a tribute to his family, Kenyans led by President Uhuru Kenyatta for supporting him in prayers and emotionally. He also thanked his lawyers Karim Khan, David Hooper, Alagendra Shyamala, Esa Faal.
“My lawyers and the entire defence team put in incredible effort, working tirelessly over long hours to systematically uncover the lies and falsehoods packaged as a case before the ICC. I am touched by their goodwill, intellect, vigilance, integrity and professionalism,” he said
