Disasters Caused By Heavy Rains Kill 13 In Rwanda

Thirteen people have been killed while 20 were injured in Rwanda this year due to disasters triggered by heavy rains, an official said on Thursday.

 

The disasters that included floods and landslides have also destroyed more than 300 hectares of crops, more than 100 houses, several roads and electric infrastructure, Philippe Habinshuti, director of response and recovery unit at the Ministry in Charge of Emergency Management told a news briefing in Kigali, capital city of Rwanda.

 

He appealed to residents living in dilapidated houses to relocate to safe places as heavy rains continue to pound different parts of the country.

 

Rwanda Meteorology Agency on Wednesday forecast heavy rains in different parts of Rwanda between Jan. 11 to 20.
