
Wednesday’s announcement comes after the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights demanded that the woman get another opportunity to have her 15-week pregnancy terminated.
Australia flew the 23-year-old woman to Sydney for an abortion two weeks ago, but she returned five days later still pregnant. The government said she had changed her mind.
The woman said that she had not changed her mind, but that she had been denied an interpreter and counselling.
Australia pays the island nation of Nauru to detain asylum seekers who attempt to reach Australian shores by boat. The government has not said when the woman will be flown.
