Algeria’s President, Tebboune Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has tested positive for Coronavirus and is currently being treated in a German hospital.

Tuesday November 4 announcement ended days of speculation about the North African President’s health.  His office said in a statement;

“Tebboune continues to receive treatment in a specialised German hospital after catching the Covid-19 illness.

“The medical staff reassures that the president is responding to treatment, and his health condition is gradually improving, in accordance with the requirements of the health protocol.”

Tebboune assumed the presidency on December 19, 2019, after winning the presidential elections, as his predecessor Abdelaziz Bouteflika resigned on April 2 of the same year, under pressure from popular protests against his 20-year rule.
