Isiolo County administrators are claiming that the Somalia based terror group, Al Shabaab, is now recruiting herders in the County.
The assistant County Commissioner, Otieno Okich said a campaign has been launched to deradicalise youth in the region.
He said the drive will involve holding meetings with the youth to curb spread of extremist ideas.
He said terror the group is targeting herders due to the long distances they travel in search of water and greener pastures.
“As a committee, we are embarking on an initiative to try and educate herders that terrorism is a global disaster that all of us need to address,” said Okich.
He disclosed that some youths in the region could have crossed the border into Somalia and urged their families to reach out to them and bring them back.
