Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt admits everyone “internally” at the club is frustrated with the difficult period the club is currently facing.
In his first season at the club, the former Bidvest Wits coach has had to pick up the pieces after replacing Ernst Middendorp.
Amakhosi were on course to claim the league crown for the first time in nearly six years but were denied on the final match day of the 2019/20 season.
A defeat to Baroka saw Amakhosi relinquish the crown to Mamelodi Sundowns in dramatic fashion.
Adding to that, Hunt has not been able to bring in any new players as the Glamour Boys see out the final months of their FIFA transfer ban.
Next on the agenda for Hunt is a home tie against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates on Sunday – the fourth meeting between the two sides this season.
The Buccaneers have claimed bragging rights in all of the last three matches since Hunt’s arrival in September last year.
The first two encounters was an MTN8 semi-final, played over two legs, with Pirates claiming a 5-0 aggregate win.
In January, Thembinkosi Lorch and Siphelele Ndlovu helped guide the Buccaneers to a 2-1 victory.
Speaking to the media ahead of the 100th league Soweto derby, Hunt refused to wave the white flag with the Buccaneers favourites to make it four wins against the Naturena side in a single season.
“Listen, we’re all disappointed… internally at the football club, the players, the staff, everyone is disappointed. We obviously want to do better. We’ve got to be realistic about these things,” said Hunt.
“Nobody is more disappointed than me. I don’t think I’ve lost to Pirates three times [in a row] in my life, so it’s disappointing but we’ve got to look forward and work on these mistakes and just do better.”
Amakhosi have only won one match in their last 10 games and they come up against a Pirates side in formidable form.
The Buccaneers, third on the log, are within a shout for league credentials with 10 games remaining and Josef Zinnbauer’s charges are top of the log in their CAF Confederations Cup group as well.
“They’ve invested heavily into the squad and it has made them stronger that is for sure,” said Hunt when asked about the gap between the two Soweto giants.
“They have got a lot of options in their team and if you look across their squad, it is a very good squad of players and have done well, rightly so.
“It will be a tough game for us, and we understand it. We have to just face it up,” Hunt concluded.
Kick-off is at 15:00 on Sunday.
