United Kingdom Reaffirms Support Against Boko Haram

Newly appointed United Kingdom Minister for Africa, Tobias Ellwood, has pledged his country’s support to Nigeria in the fight against terror.

He said to boost Africa’s economies, it was crucial to improve stability and security across the continent.

Thus, UK would continue to work with the African Union (AU) and through its role on the UN Security Council (UNSC) on these issues.

“For example, this has included working with France and the US on a joint approach to tackling the threats from Boko Haram in Nigeria, dealing with the effects of the Ebola outbreak and helping to improve security in Somalia,” Ellwood highlighted.

Ellwood succeeds James Duddridge, who stood down earlier this month after Theresa May took over as Prime Minister.

The UK has strong and enduring links with Africa and I want to make sure African people know that this international coöperation and our engagement with the continent will continue even once the UK is outside the EU,”Ellwood pledged.
