– DP Ruto must work hard to win Kikuyu vote for 2022 or get zero, a Jubilee Governor says.
The DP, who is dissolving his United Republican Party URP to join up with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s TNA and form the Jubilee Party for the 2017 and 2022 polls has been backed by President Kenyatta for the 2022 polls.
But as politics stands, nothing is ever as straightforward as it seems and Ruto has been told that he will be a fool to expect Kikuyus to vote for him on a silver platter.
” The reality is that he will need to speak to us and we may or may not vote for him come 2022,” Kiambu Governor William Kabogo reiterated similar comments he had made earlier in a phone interview with News24.
” 2022 is far away for now and no one is guaranteed anything. One week is a long time in politics. Six years is a very very long time. Things will change for sure,” he added.
Ruto has been criticised in the past for using his association with the President to try stake the claim for the Mt Kenya vote come 2022.
Meru Governor Peter Munya has already said he will not back the new Jubilee Party as it is a means for Ruto to earn himself extra airtime ahead of the 2022 polls.
Munya says he too will contest the Presidency come 2022.
