A school in Bungoma County has expelled 24 form four students indefinitely for what the management termed as chronic noise making and disruption of peace in class.
Lwanda girls high school in Sang’alo zone Bungoma South Sub County sent home the students on Friday May 27 and they are expected to report back on June 3.
The Deputy Principal Mrs Margaret Wangila sent letters to parents of the affected students notifying them about the suspension in advance.
“Hello parent, I’m sending your daughter home today Friday 27/5/2016 at 9am for chronic noise making and disrupting the peace of the class,” read the letters.
A concerned parent who asked for anonymity whose child was expelled said that noise making was not something to warrant the suspension.
“Why didn’t they call parents of the affected students before agreeing to send them home for a week? These candidates are preparing for their examinations and it is wrong to send them home because of noise making. They should have internal disciplinary mechanisms to curb such vices instead of sending children home,” he said.
He called on Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to visit the school and solve the impasse.
The affected students are supposed to report this Friday accompanied by their parents and with good reasons as to why they were involved in noise making.
Contacted, neither the school Principal Mrs Mildred Masibo nor her deputy Margaret Wangila responded to calls or messages sent to their mobile phones.
However, the County Director of Education Mr Charles Anyika said he was not aware of the incident and had not received any official letter from the school about the same.
“Let me ask my officers they might be sitting on this information,” he said.
